La Merienda
La Sociedad Folklórica is a non-profit organization whose mission is to collect, preserve and pass on the knowledge of the customs and traditions of their Spanish ancestors, (some centuries old), to younger generations and the general public. Like its founder, Cleofas Jaramillo, many of the 45 members can trace their family lineage to the first Europeans of New Mexico – the Spanish colonists of 1598.
During the Santa Fe Fiestas, the Folklorica sponsors its annual ”Exhibicion de Modas y Merienda..” The preview of treasured heirlooms and gowns of yesteryear was previously held at the James Little Theater on the Saturday afternoon of annual Fiesta de Santa Fe. Following the fashion show, a merienda of frothy hot chocolate and biscochitos are served to those in attendance.
